Need a bit of advice about some unmentionables

Last weekend when we went roading with the hounds, I wore Kerrits Dry-fit breeches, a dry-fit polo shirt, and a (supposedly) dry-fit sports bra. It was hot, we all sweated buckets, and my clothes were pretty much soaked through by the time I got off.

It's a two-hour drive home from where we ride with the hounds, so I had plenty of time to evaporate under Grendel's (my truck) super-cold AC. Twenty minutes into the drive, my breeches and shirt were dry, but my sports bra was still soaked through (not to mention cold, clammy, and gross) by the time I got home. "Eeew" doesn't even begin to cover it.

So, ladies, what's your favorite dry-fit sports bra? I (ahem) don't need tons of support, and I'd prefer something that zips up the front. But at this point, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is that the damn thing is actually breathable and dries out. 'Cause there is nothing worse than cold, sweat-soaked clothes stuck to you. For hours.

Recommendations?

  1. Now, I need lots of support. It took me 2 weeks of trying on about 20 different sports bras that had enough... structure... that I didn't give myself a broken jaw when I bounced around in them. And then I found this one: http://www.newbalance.com/Profile-Crop/WBT8307,default,pd.html?dwvar_WBT8307_color=White&start=3&cgid=255100
My SO calls it the "Fort Knox of sports bras". And it is. But it's also surprisingly breathable. Coming from a girl that plays roller derby, runs, rides, and works out pretty hard at the gym, that's high praise.

A couple points of advice: Take the "modesty" cups out of it. Immediately. Makes it about 90 degrees cooler.
Unzip after a the workout. It dries really quickly, but it's so much nicer to cool out without the cleavage sweat still dripping (TMI?)

    1. B, that one looks really awesome! Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to see if I can find one at the local sporting goods store.

And yeah, I know what you mean about unzipping for faster drying. ;)

  2. I get totally soaked through the underthings too. Can't recommend the bra-ish unit I'm wearing now... Hanes maybe? Doesn't give uni-boob but definitely stays wet. Sadly there's no place to buy underwear here, and ordering online isn't practical.

Can't wait til we're considering how to stay warmer! ;D

    1. CFS, yeah, it was 102 here today at 6pm. I know what you mean about wanting some cooler weather!

  3. jenj-- I hate bras. Not a comfortable one in the lot. I ride and hike (I don't run so it isn't an issue) and live, in thin, snug 100% cotton tanks. They go under everything, give enough support for me, air dry perfectly, are supremely comfortable and let your tatas breathe--which I think is healthier for them. The only problem is sitting the trot--so I post (!).

    1. Laura, I've tried those but I think I'm too active on horseback for them. Sitting and posting trot, along with jumping, is just a taaaad much for a tank. Good suggestion for those less-active days though!

  4. Try Titlenine.com
They have a lot of great sports bras to choose from.

  5. I hear you about the sports bra not drying out. Unfortunately, I think it has a lot to do with being a second layer of clothing that just doesn't get the airflow of the outer layers. I have not found one that doesn't get soaked and uncomfortable.

I bought a couple sleeveless shirts for running that have a modest bra built in. The support is not the same as a separate elastic bra, but it solved the soaking issue and worked okay for me. I do not really like to ride in sleeveless shirts so I haven't tested them in the saddle, but I think they might work since I run in them. I think I actually found them at Kohl's or Target, so it might be worth the trip. They were not expensive.
