Oh no. You have just had to deal with so much loss lately. So sorry to hear this. Colic is very scary for all of us horse owners. Thinking of you. May you now have a long run of very good fortune animal-wise.
I am so sorry! Coincidentally, we lost our first family horse that we've had for 17 years this weekend... his name is Ryker and we are all so sad to see him go. I feel your pain and I hope you do your best to just remember the good times and now he's running wild and free like all horses really want to be! Or... just lazily grazing in a pasture of lush green grasses. ;)
You know the day is going to come with older horses, but when the day actually comes, it hurts much more than I thought it could. He was otherwise healthy and happy and playful - I guess it was just his time as the vet deemed it "natural causes".
Younger horses have a certain sharpness in losing them that is just as painful. I've had my share of losing both young and old, and it's never easy. Keep your chin up, time helps.
How horrible to lose him. What a fabulous horse he was and what a fabulous owner you guys were to him, he had a horsey dream job/life. lots of hugs to you.
This is terrible news. Colic does, indeed, take too many of them, too young. Sending you a big hug -- please pass it on to your husband. He must be devastated. (not that you aren't, of course).
Oh no! I am so, so, so sorry to hear this! He was such a spectacular horse, with such charisma, and one of my favorites! I got to meet him at Gulf Wars this year and was quite taken by him, and his beautiful tail! (My mare was a driving horse in the first half of her life and her tail is docked.) My student Kristy and I spent some time grooming him, and got to help your husband get him ready for a joust. Plus, watching him was a joy, he was so big and lively. I can't express how sad I am to hear this, and am just in tears about it. My deepest sympathies on the lose of such an amazing horse.
Cherie, thank you for sharing your wonderful memories of him. I am glad you got to meet him in person, and a belated thanks for helping my husband with his care!
Jen, I am also behind on catching up with your blog and only just read this - what appalling news. I think its certainly one of the cruellest fates for any horse and devastating for the owner. So sorry for both of you :-(
