Paddinton's built-in llama detector says that the llama is RIGHT OVER THERE!
Yes, our neighbors across the street have a llama. Fortunately, the drama is usually limited to pricked ears and a snort or two. Unless the llama gets up, in which case a good spook may be necessary. Just FYI.
What's the scariest thing YOUR horse has ever seen?
everything ramone sees is scary the first time, a pat usually lets him get over it
ReplyDeleteI am very lucky that Paddington is as brave as he is - usually a good stare for a moment or two is all he requires before moving on.
DeleteHaha!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first got Henry, some random cows appeared when I was riding and he spun and left me in the dirt... it sucked! Thankfully we haven't had many of those moments!
Ouch! Around here cows are pretty common so most horses aren't bothered by them. But now that you mention it, I'm not sure Paddy has ever seen a cow...
DeleteSimon has not met a llama and he does not want to.
ReplyDeleteBut if he hasn't met one, how do you KNOW he doesn't love them? Obv you need to bring him to my house and he can hang with them up close and personal-like. ;)
DeletePeriodically a gang of camo wearing, paintball gun firing kids come crashing through the woods next to our arena - usually at dusk.
ReplyDeleteA llama would no doubt great quite a stir too. ;D
That's it, you win. Paintball-gun-firing-kids? *I'D* run the other direction!
DeleteMiniature horse ambush. They were loose in the indoor. Thankfully, I was not on Harley because he ran backwards! Those minis were aggressively friendly.
ReplyDeleteOMG Cash completely understands this. He is terrified of minis to this day. TERRIFIED. I am pretty sure he thinks they speak in tongues or something, because they are just. not. natural.
DeleteNot many things that Shy sees ends up bothering her. . .it's what she hears but doesn't see that is our problem. We have the minions, have dealt with cows, and we have llamas down the street.
ReplyDeleteLove those ears!!
Ahhh, the "invisible" monsters. Yes, those are quite dangerous!
DeleteWe've got alpacas... my horses encounter alpacas, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, loud rumbly trucks, motor cycles, bikes etc on a daily basis as we live on a busy highway and have an eclectic collection of critters, lol... so far I've not met much that scares my horses since we've moved to our current location. Oh! Except my 3 year old is terrified of baths.. that's it!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have everything! How funny that your horse is afraid of baths, given all the other scary stuff! LOL!
DeleteEmus. Especially when they start running and waving their wings around. CUE DEATH BOLTING FROM HORSES.
ReplyDeleteI believe emus take a close second to the kids with the paintball guy. Not sure what the second-place prize is though...
DeleteMy old steadfast horse encountered a horse eating pig, our redneck neighbors are keeping in a small pen next to the road, no amount of coaxing could convince "Cowboy" it wasn't going to eat us. I never had him tremble and shake like that before, he was ready to bolt and leave me behind.
ReplyDeleteHorse-eating pig, huh? I'm glad to say we've never met one of those...
DeleteDude, llamas. Had to ride past llamas (and two houses down, a couple of alpacas) to get to the local arena in Nevada. Nothing has ever been scarier than llamas.
ReplyDelete(Ostriches/emus sound pretty awful but hopefully I'll never have to deal with them.)
Agree. And they are especially terrifying when they STAND UP. PANIC!!
DeleteNo horse here :(. But I did notice that Paddington's stance is very similar to our old Weimaraner, Nayla's stance when she would pointing at our cats. Point, focus, look at mom and think "Shoot it! SHOOT IT NOW!". The cats did not appreciate that very much.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Paddington is thinking when "pointing" at the llamas?
Probably something along the lines of "Should I spook? Should I stand? What is is DOING? Heck, WHAT IS IT?????"
DeleteA hell-o-copter. Which was coming in to make an airlift evac of a friend I was riding with. She'd gotten bucked off on a trail ride, we were in the back of beyond with a nice big field to have a chopper land. The other horses had hightailed it out, and Mitchkins was all "ummmm... guys?" The most I got out of him though was a slight spook, but we were far enough away that he only backpedaled a few inches and he went right back to stuffing his face with the grass under the tree. Haflingers ... the true motto of Carl's Jr.'s "don't bother me, I'm eating"
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHA! "Don't bother me, I'm eating!" SO TRUE!
