I have the worst record with scorpions. I think I've been stung about 7-8 times. Fortunately, I'm not allergic to them, and every time I get stung it hurts a little less. Maybe I'm becoming immune? I haven't been stung yet this year, so I consider that a victory of sorts.
Then, the other morning, I pulled on a shirt to go feed the boys. It was one of hubby's shirts - a big, baggy t-shirt that had been laying on the floor overnight. I walked into the kitchen, and kiddo #1 said, "There's a scorpion on your sleeve!" Hubby was right behind me and grabbed a magazine to swat it, but it managed to escape up INTO my shirt sleeve in the meantime. Hubby swatted at it a few times (not knowing where it was, just took random aim at my arm) but he couldn't see it. I pulled off my shirt and found the scorpion stunned on the floor, where hubby finished it off.
Unfortunately, the little summabeotch managed to sting me about 8-10 times before we got it off me.
Bastard. At least he's dead.
I may have to burn the house down now. Perhaps that would get rid of them all.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH burn it. I could not live where there are scorpions. How terrifying.
ReplyDeleteHusband may object to burning down the house. Alas.
DeleteNo. Bueno. Thankfully you're not allergic!!!
ReplyDeleteSide note: we don't have scorpions in New Jersey ;)
Is THAT why you moved up there? I knew there had to be a reason, lol!
DeleteSo glad I don't live in a part of the world with scorpions, giant spiders, and poisonous snakes are a normal thing. The worst I get are giant carpenter ants.
ReplyDeleteEh, you gotta trade some things for winters that don't get much below 40 degrees. And the giant spiders are completely harmless... it's the little ones you gotta watch out for, lol!
DeleteOh. No. Just no. This is a no. I hate Texas. I can't even. No...
ReplyDeleteI hope your arm doesn't fall off in some sort of ritual sacrifice to the scorpion gods. Ow.
Nah, it's totally back to normal now. The stings heal really fast - this was by far the worst reaction I've ever had.
DeleteI had no idea they were so common!? It sounds awful!
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on where you live. We back to a greenbelt so we get a lot of them. People just a mile away have lived in their houses forever and have never seen one. We deal.
DeleteMother effer. How does a scorpion sting compare to a bee or otherwise?
ReplyDeleteTHEY HURT LIKE A BITCH.
DeleteWhat Andrea said. The first time I got stung it was much worse than a wasp sting. This time it was like "Ow, fuck, AGAIN REALLY?" The only reason it looks so bad it because there were so many stings so close together. Usually I just get a tiny red bump from the sting, nbd.
Deletenope nope nope. I'm so happy that I live in Tennessee. Noooo scorpions.
ReplyDeleteActually there are scorpions in eastern Tennessee. ;)
DeleteAGH! For as bad as my roach experience was, I'm really glad I've never seen a scorpion in my house.
ReplyDeleteI'll save one for you... that way when we eventually meet, you'll get to seen one. ;)
DeleteEeep, scorpions, giant spiders, snakes *shudder*...I'll stick to my Euro safe-haven where we get none of those horrible hideous creatures!
ReplyDeleteHope those nasty stings heal up asap
Already healed, thanks! And yes, Europe seems to be remarkably free from venomous critters!
DeleteI'm just glad they haven't ventured slightly north to my house...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I can loan you a few if you want. :)
DeleteJen I think we are going to traumatize all non-Texans with these kinds of posts. Between your scorpions and my tarantulas, nobody is ever going to want to visit us!
ReplyDeleteYou might be right. Darn!
DeleteOMG, I would just die if I found a scorpion in my house, much less ON MY BEING.
ReplyDeleteYou get used to them in your house. I am not, and never will be, OK with them ON me. Eeesh.
DeleteI totally agree with Tracy! I can't even imagine!
ReplyDeleteHope you heal up quick!
I'm sure I could ship you a few live ones if you'd like!
DeleteI can not handle scorpions..omg...I would die.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of amazing what you get used to, lol!
Delete*shudder* Spiders are the worst for me... but scorpions come really close..... ugh..
ReplyDeleteOh man, spiders are totally nbd after you've lived with scorpions for a little while.
DeleteOh my gosh! I think I'd have a heart attack. I'm so glad we don't have those in Oregon.
ReplyDeleteActually, yes, you do have scorpions in Oregon... ;)
Deleteholy heart attack!
ReplyDeleteNope, nope, nope, nope nope nope. no way.
That's pretty much how i feel about it too, lol!
DeleteICK that is fucking frightening
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the special joys of living where we do. Yay.
DeleteI will NOT LIVE where thou art scorpions.
ReplyDeleteRattlesnakes I can deal with. Those little bits of evilness are NOT ALLOWED.
My mother lives in Phoenix and her Yorkie brings them to her. Shudder.
I hope the Yorkie kills them before delivery. In which case, can I borrow the Yorkie?
DeleteYikes.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if that's better or worse than ticks.
Ugh ticks are SO GROSS. Gag. That definitely wins the gross factor. Scorpions are just nasty.
DeleteThat sounds awful. Not sure if I would trade ticks for scorpians. Can they mostly be avoided? Ticks keep me out of the woods all summer, which sucks.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, they are excellent climbers and can squeeze through a space the size of a credit card, so it's basically impossible to keep them out of your house. They are also practically immune to most pesticides due to their exoskeletons. They are also fond of hiding in clothing and blankets and such.
DeleteThe best way to avoid them, frankly, is not to buy a house that already has them. Our part of town seems to have a very large population - all our neighbors have problems too, so it's not just us. Boo.
Holy cow! That's awful! You are one tough cookie.
ReplyDeleteMeh... you get used to it. And it looked worse than it felt - just a bit itchy, really.
DeleteThat is TERRIFYING!!! I couldn't do it, we have big spiders and snakes (which I actually think are cute- the snakes, not the spiders), but scorpions are a definite NO for me, especially in the house! Glad you're not allergic!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, I think the snakes are cute too! Spiders are meh. I can live with them, especially in comparison to scorpions, but I'd rather they stay outside of the house.
DeleteOMG never saw one of them - ok, we do not have them anyway here but I would be soooo afraid!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you are lucky over there to have mostly harmless creatures. ;)
Deletehttp://www.komonews.com/news/local/Man-tries-to-kill-spider-with-spray-paint-and-lighter-burns-down-house-267285431.html
ReplyDeleteSomeone local to me tried that.......
Yikes.
DeleteI thought living in Australia was bad with all our awesome spiders and snakes.. But fark that! You can keep your house scorpions!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least OUR scorpions don't kill you if you get stung! ;) And our spiders, while large, can still be crushed with a shoe. Yours... yeesh. I will not forget the dinner-plate-sized Orb weaver I saw up in the Daintree. *Shiver*
DeleteOW! We had scorpions in our last house but they stayed out of our way. Mind you we made sure our shoes weren't harbouring any little critters in the mornings & we shook out clothes too... thankfully we haven't seen any in our new house.
ReplyDeleteYucky things
People in our area actually do move houses because of scorpions. They are nearly impossible to kill with pesticides, and some areas (like our house and our neighbor's houses) just seem to have a lot of them. Wee bastards!
