I've been feeling kinda icky all week with a super sore throat, and yesterday I gave up and went to the doctor. Apparently I've got the first case of scarlet fever she'd ever seen, yay me! Basically it's just a fancy name for strep throat with a fantastic itchy rash, but it was one of diseases people often died from in the middle ages... well really up until penicillin was invented. Fortunately, we have excellent antibiotics in 2014, so I'm feeling much better already.
Oh, and I gave it to my husband. Because sharing is caring, right?
And Artemis makes an excellent nap buddy!
Sharing is caring! At least you didn't give it to the cat?
ReplyDeleteNope, Artemis is just fine, if a bit put out about me not staying put during nap time (which is from 8am - 5pm, btw)
DeleteYucky! I had scarlet fever when I was really little and I had a really high fever along with all my other symptoms. Do you have a fever too? Hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteI actually had a really low-grade fever which is why the doctor was so surprised that I had it.
DeleteUgh I've had scarlet fever too- it's the worst! The cat doesn't look too impressed by it all, though. Hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteBeing sick is no fun no matter what you've got!
DeleteScarlet Fever, now you have to burn everything like in the velveteen rabbit
ReplyDeleteNah, just change out my toothbrush and wash the sheets!
DeleteFeel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI had scarlet fever as a kid - super high fever that made me delirious - rash, painful joints all over and crazy dreams.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourselves!
It's usually a childhood disease, but I got lucky apparently (har. har.) Fortunately I didn't have a high fever so that was a blessing!
Deleteaww boo.hope you're back in action soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks to antibiotics, we'll be right as rain soon!
DeleteSharing IS caring! Love Artemis' expression, so sassy. Feel better!
ReplyDeleteArtemis was not impressed. Alas. And husband is not convinced that we have to share *everything*!
DeleteOMG, YOU HAVE EBOLA! ;P Sorry, couldn't resist. Congrats on getting something unique though -- haven't tried that one. I did have to have a lymph node removed from my hip in grad school b/c I got...wait for it...cat scratch fever! I didn't even know it was a real thing. But it is. And it is very painful! Oh, and naturally, (at least at the time when I looked into it) they didn't know how it was transmitted, b/c you don't have to be scratched by your cat (usually only carried by cats under 6 mos old apparently).
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the cool disease club!
Yay cool diseases club? Can I get my membership revoked now, please?
Delete*Snicker* It's 1887 again!
ReplyDeleteJK. Hope you're feeling better by now.
It totally is. And yes, much better now!
DeletePS Just noticed to my great shame that LW beat me to the Velveteen Rabbit reference. Dangit. That was one of my favourite books as a kid...still have my hard copy here on my shelf. <3
ReplyDeletePPS ROFL, the number the stupid CAPTCHA gave me is one of our cost centers we code our time to at work. Errr, carry on....
The Velveteen Rabbit reference gets a +1. And how I hate the stupid CAPTCHA thing... but not as much as I hate spam.
DeleteThat definitely sounds unpleasant. I hope you get healed up soon.
ReplyDeleteAntibiotics are awesome! Much better now thanks!
DeleteWay to go obscure disease! I didn't know people still got that.
ReplyDeleteOnly me, 'cause I'm special that way. Har. Har.
DeleteI had that when I was a teenager, my mother also thought it was a medieval illness and laughed out loud in the docs face when I was diagnosed.
ReplyDeleteCheers mam ☺
Feel better soon lady!!!
Yeah, it's not exactly something you hear about people getting all the time! And we're feeling much better, thanks!
