Help a Haffie out - I need a name!

Hi there.

You might remember me - I'm the new Haffie.

My new Mom and Dad are trying to figure out what my name is, but so far they're terrible parents and haven't found one.

I mean, how hard can it be? I'm gorgeous and adorable.

I came with "Avery" but it's just not me.

They tried "Armani"

Tristan

Merlin

Piper?

Samson

Chaucer

Galahad (what a mouthful!)

Lancelot (seriously guys could we get away from the Arthurian theme?)

But they're just... not me.

Help a Haffie out?

(Notes from the humans: H2.0 is shy, but sticks like glue once he gets to know you. Like literally must be touching you with his nose at all times. He's not confident himself but gets his confidence from you. Tries hard to please under saddle but also comes with the requisite Haffie tricks for getting out of work. Unlike Paddy, he's not aware he's adorable. He's probably the most talkative horse I've ever met. He's also crazy athletic.

Name must be something suitable for a dressage and/or jousting horse. Name must also still fit him if that crazy mane happens to be removed. Name must not cause any embarrassment when I yell it across the pasture at 6 am. Bonus points if it's as cute as Paddington Bear.)

    1. We actually already know a Pooh Bear. Also I am not yelling "POOOOOOH" at 6 am for all the neighbors to hear. You try it. :D

  5. I like Thor and Frodo from the above. They would sound cool at 6am (I also think POOH at 6am would be hilarious).

I also think this might have been an excuse to show all those adorable pics.

    2. I third Baloo. Super cute, whatever his name ends up!

    3. If it needs to be something "more" for a show name, it could be Brave Baloo, Bighearted Baloo, Bold Baloo...

    4. Hubby has nixed Baloo. :( It's a little "too cute".

    1. If I yell "THORRRRRRRRR!!!!" at 6 am, Chris Hemsworth better show up shirtless in my barn. Just sayin.

    3. If you try that and it works, please let the rest of us know so we can repeat the experiment.

    4. Amanda, hell no. If that happens I'm keeping Chris for myself. :P

    5. This post's comments are top notch! I'm sure you've named him by now, but I like Wilberry after Willberry the Wonder Pony, or Wellington

  8. I second Thor, Odin, Firefoot (and also second Chris Hemsworth showing up in my barn!)

I also think it would be cool if you went with a mythological beast in keeping with your farm name of Wyvern Oaks. Gryphon would be my favorite (and he's lion coloured) but there's many others that could work too...

    Gryphon (or Griffin)
    Phoenix
    Chimera
    Sphinx

  9. He seeks you out- Scout? But nearly as cute as Paddington Bear so...

  10. What about naming him ''2.0''.
    Literally ''Two point oh''

  11. Here's a fun list -

Unrelated to the bear theme, but I like Arthur.

  12. You should name him after my favorite literary horse. Faran is a war horse belonging to a Pandion Knight named Sparhawk. He is cranky and irritable, however it is because he is so in tuned with his owner he mirrors Sparhawks personality. If you are curious Faran is in two series the Elenium and the Tamuli by David Eddings.

  14. Taxi, because it would be too funny yelling this in a pasture at o dark thirty!

  15. Something from Gallivant? :D It's totally fun and ridiculous. :D

  16. You have Paddington - how about Henry Brown or Mr Gruber?
Or since you hvae a Paddy, go with the Irish theme - Riley, Seamus and the like.
Irish knights? Fiann (plural Fianna) were Irish warriors, Cuchulainn, Conchobar.

  17. Koda - the bear cub from animated movie Brother Bear. Koda is a form of Dakota and it means "The Ally" or "Little Bear" while the name Dakota means "friend" in the Dakota language.

  18. Someone already mentioned 'Teddy Bear' ... he could be Theo (Theodore) Bear ... or maybe Fred?

Hollering FREDDY at 6am wouldn't be too embarrassing unless your neighbor is a Fred ?

Congrats on finding H2.0 (Avery). Paddy must be thrilled to have a doppelganger he can pin his antics on ;)

  19. I like McLeod. Or you can spell it McCloud. Because he's a talker. Nickname Mac.

Then you need barn cats named Knick and Knack.
"Knick, Knack, Paddy, Mac, come and get your food...."
    Sounds great at 6am.

  20. What about Meriadoc or Pippin? Samwise? Hobbits are somewhat bear-like.

    Groot? Rocket?

My MIL was so bad at naming that one of her colts stayed "Colti" until he was sold. We still refer to him as Colti.

  21. Panda Bear

Paddy and Panda sound good together. I would love to see that mane in its full glory.

  22. Thor? For his long blonde hair?

  23. Oooh, or Tsornin from The Blue Sword. Same coloring, great knight's horse name.

  24. Ugh Blogger seems to have eaten my previous comment, but a few more Arthurian names: Parzival, Passelande, Gringolet. Really cool and well-researched entry here: http://d.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/theme/horse

Tristan was almost Rienzi, after Philip Sheridan's horse in the Civil War, famous for his endurance and speed and later renamed Winchester.

  25. I thought about doing down a LOTR or literary path since I loved Brego's name so much. Some ideas: Rohan, Viggo, Samwise, Pippin', Aslan...

  32. So all I can think of is this: H2.0 sounds like H2O which is water, or Hydrogen, so what about Hydro?

    ReplyDelete
  33. What about Bear? It's simple I don't know I love that name though it's cute but it's fierce if you know what I mean

  34. These names are all awesome. I love Dually as a name for a Texas horse :)
